If you cannot access the full text online, we should be able to get a copy of a dissertation through interlibrary loan (ILL).  E-mail your request to libaz@atsu.edu.

Scope notes are brief definitions for subject headings.  In Ovid you could look at them by clicking on the blue I.  In EBSCO just click on the word “Scope.”

Both the A.T. Still Memorial Library Branches have online catalogs to assist you in finding specific books or books on specific subjects.  Links to both of these catalogs are available on the Library’s web site under the ‘Arizona and Missouri Library Services and Resources’ drop down menu located on the top left side of the page.  

The ATSMLib AZ’s catalog also contains links to ATSMLib’s electronic books, or E-books.   You can search for books either by typing in a keyword term, or the author’s name, or the title of the book.  Clicking on “Search Now” will take you to a list of results. To access an E-book click on the title of the books identified as E-books. This will take you to the full record for the book with a clickable link at the bottom of the record that takes you directly to the book.

ILL stands for Interlibrary Loan.  It is a process by which libraries obtain materials they don’t have from other libraries that do have them, so that an individual library doesn’t have to subscribe to every journal or buy every book for its collection.  This way, we can request articles for you that we don’t have full text for, and we can get them for you for free.

How do I make a request?

On the lower left side of A.T. Still Memorial Library Home page is a link titled Request an Article – Interlibrary Loan (http://www.atsu.edu/atsmlib/Doc_delivery.asp) which contains instructions on how to request articles via InterLibrary Loan as well as provide forms for doing so for both the Arizona and Missouri branches of the Library.

What’s a citation?

A citation is the information that tells us what article you want and where we’ll find it.  It consists of the article’s author name, title, journal name, year of publication, volume and issue numbers, and the page numbers.  Another good piece of information to include is something called a PMID or UI.  That’s a number that helps pinpoint the article for us.  It is not always included in the information you might have about an article, but if it is, it simplifies the process if you include it in your request.

How long will it take for me to get an article?

Usually 1-3 business days from the time we receive your request.  This means, for instance, that if you send your request on a Friday evening, we won’t actually receive it till Monday morning.  But during the week, our turn-around times average about one-and-a-half days.

Do I have to come to the ATSMLib to pick up my article?

We will send you a PDF file of the article via email.

You must log into the ATSU Portal (my.atsu.edu) in order to access the ATSMLib AZ online resources available through the website when off campus.  You will be authenticated as an ATSU student or faculty after you log into the ATSU Portal.  You must separately log into your the ATSU Portal even though you are already logged into your Blackboard course.  You can open both web pages and go back and forth.  We apologize for this inconvenience and are investigating ways of better integrating the extensive ATSMLib AZ digital resources into your online courses.
